Today, I went to a wrestling match and the dogs were crated for a long time. I left the house at around 1:00 and didn't return until around 9:30. When I let them out of their crates, they really showed me how much they missed me...
Cozby did a figure eight around my legs, ensuring maximum contact. Then, he pranced around and gave me his leg up routine. This is his version of bounding, which he can't really do because his legs are about six inches long. It's his unique way of showing utter joy.
Chili immediately ran past me to see if there had been any food particles that had materialized on the floor in the vicinity of the kitchen. I'm sure there's love in there somewhere, but he is truly driven first by his stomach, second by his heart, and a very distant third by his brain.
I've heard that dogs only have a three second short-term memory, so they can't really tell if you've been gone for five minutes or five hours. It's days like this that make that rumor seem a bit suspect. Just what I needed after a long, long day.
